Comprehending a topic is very different from understanding it. When one comprehend a topic, basically one just know what it is either through listening or reading it. Understanding it means one has comprehend and experience it either through practising it or experiencing it live.
Sharing an incident that happens to me two days ago. How many of us comprehend how to change tires? I am very sure all or most drivers comprehend it in one way or another, but I am very sure most of us do not understand what it takes to do it.
The most unexpected or probably being an optimistic guy, I always says things will not happen to me, but it happened. I was driving along the North-South highway when the rear tyre burst. I slowed down and drive to the side. Confidently, I checked the tyre and got out the tools like a "pro" only to find out that I did not know how to lower the spare-tyre from the bottom of the car. This is not the saloon car but a station-wagon type where the spare tyre is not placed in the rear compartment but under it. I know there is a special tool to lower the spare-tyre but I just did not know where to insert the tool to meet the objective!
I end-up walking to the "SOS Intercom" provided by PLUS. I trigger the level and the beeping sound came on, but no one responded. Then I walked back to the car and try getting the PLUS emergency number. Called them and within less than 30 minutes they arrived. Got to commend them that they are polite and did their job well.
Case in point, do not be fooled by our own mind that we understand something when we actually just comprehend. Whatever we are taught, we must practise to ensure we understand and not just let it stay in the mind assuming we understand when we just comprehend!
