Rating:
3.0/5-Star. Service ok. Aircon.

Remarks & Opinion:
This update is over two visits. The first we ordered the Curry Vegetable, Steam Fish with preserve vegetable, pumpkin tofu. The 2nd visit we ordered Assam fish head, pan-fry french beans with "mui choi",  pan-fry "yaw mak" with black bean fried dace fish, and a yam basket. Herein, my opinion on them individually :-
C u r r y   V e g e t a b l e: This dish is surprisingly nice and good. Taste is not pungent yet it is aromatic. Am sure it is cooked with coconut milk but it does not give you that heavy feeling. Cost RM9.

P u m p k i n   T o f u : This dish is wrongly named. It is supposed to be pumpkin tofu with eggs. If you didn't know this dish is supposed to be a tofu dish, you would have mistaken it to be steam eggs! The taste is great, riched in eggs and pumpkin but cannot really taste tofu. Thus, based on the name of the dish, it fails, but if it is named as pumpkin eggs with tofu, then it is a different story.but dish is wrongly named! Cost RM 9

S t e a m   T i l a p i a   w i t h   P r e s e r v e d   V e g e t a b l e : Tatse good and fish is fresh. The sauce is not overwhelming but just enough to mask the funny tatse of tilapia. Cost RM 23.

A s s a m   F i s h   H e a d   ( S o o n g   F i s h ) : This dish surpass my expectation. It is so good that the moment it is served, you can get the aroma of the assam mixed with the fish. At that moment, I thought the taste will be overwhelmed by the assam with the stinging taste that will shock the taste bud. Surprise! Surprise! the sauce not only it did not sting the taste buds, bud actually blends in with the fresh fish meat that it leave a feeling of wanting it more! Cost RM20.

Pan-fry "Mui Choi" with French Beans : This is a failure! It is too watery. They should have thickens the sauce and allow it (together with the mui choi) to stick on to the french beans. However, it is too watery to do that. Though the taste is ok, but just did not pass the test. Cost RM7.

P a n - f r y   y a w   m a k   w i t h   b l a c k   b e a n   f r i e d   d a c e : Again this is a failure! Same disastrous cooking method as the french beans. Cost RM9.

Yam Basket: The yam is good, but the accompanying vegetables is too bland. Cost RM9

Iranian Food

Rating:
3.5/5-Star.

Remarks & Opinion:
The food I like best here is the rice with barbeque lamb cubes. First the rice, it is so fluffy and nice and the feeling of it caressing your tongue when you eat it. I don't mind eating it plain at all. It is that good! As for the barbeque lamb cubes, you can hardly find fats! The taste of lamb is so well preserve and the meat is moist. In addition the serving is big. However, the only set-back is that you have to be there early (approx 11am) or else they will not serve you the lamb cubes rice, but mixed with chicken. Anyway, the chicken taste as good too! The dish is served with a barbequed chilly (taste superb) and onions and barbequed tomato. You may add butter to the rice, but my choise is without as I do not like oily food.

With the iranian tea, your meal would be a very satisfying one and will definitely make you go back for more.

Moses Parting of the Red Sea

This is a comment on the above subject matter in response to an article posted by AURUM3 New Tech on September 26th, 2010 on the findings of Mr. Carl Drews, NCAR Researcher. The article reads as follows:-

"Latest research indicated that the winds parted Red Sea, not Moses. National Center for Atmospheric Research and the University of Colorado at Boulder showed through computer simulation that wind can indeed part water. Carl Drews, a software engineer with the NCAR said that there was a bend in the body of water pointing east, and as the water shifted, it separated at the point of the bend, leaving a gap there."

Point One: Of course it is not Moses that parted the Red Sea. It is through the power of God that is bestowed on him that empowered him to do so.

Point Two: There is no doubt that wind was at play, because it is already mentioned in the bible.

Thus, the point of contention herein is that, it is not whether did Moses parted the Red Sea, but why research on a fact that is already stated in the bible (Exodus) of which facts has been and is still continuing to unfold in front of us - the Bible has been right to date!? So did Moses parted the Red Seas, of course not. It is through the power of God he did that. It is a waste of time to even reserch that. The only good that comes out of such time wasting research is that they actually confirm that wind can actually do what the bible claims - which the bible already stated that it is through the power of God that invoked the wind to achieve the objective. Again, who created everything that is on Earth in the first place? Read the Genesis!

So, is this not a waste of time? But why people still do something which is already made known and hinted by God through the bible? The only explanation is people did it out of greed and popularity. The bible is the only book that recveives the widest coverage on Earth, and the best way to gain popularity and drawing attention is to either proof the bible right or wrong. Either way, greed and popularity is achieved.

This link (i can't authenticate it) will shed some light on the evidence of the bible claims:-

Specialty:
Smashed Fried Chicken

Rating:
3.5/5-Star. Service and ambience is good and fast.

Remarks & Opinion:
They lived up to their tagline "Smashing Good Food, Delivered Fast". There are two Ayam Penyet in the market - One is Ayam Penyet RIA and the other is Ayam Penyet AP. Make sure you go for the RIA and not the AP. I have no facts on this, but from the taste, I guess the AP is trying to copy the RIA . AP fail terribly in terms of taste, texture and overall presentation.

Coming back to Ayam Penyet RIA, I have noticed this restaurant for quite a while and pass them off as normal malay/indonesia fast food. However, one fine day, I was given a treat by a Singapore friend at this place and I was surprised by the good food this place serve. I thought it was a fluke and did not care much about this restaurant until a few days ago, I went back and give it a try. They have maintained the good food and i just ate and ate and admit I have not been fair to this restaurant.I ordered the followings:-

1. Ayam Penyet (of course since it is their name)
The chicken is tasty and the meat is not dry (not like the usual malay fried chicken) and you can actually feel the moist in your mouth. Add some sambal and it send you to heaven!

2. Empal Penyet (Smashed fried beef)
I do not know why this restaurant is not named Empal Penyet but Ayam Penyet. Actually their empal penyet is very much better than the chicken. The beef is tender but does not give you that soft and soggy feel. It is tasty and as you chew, the taste is more prominent andit does not give you the dry feeling for the meat is moist. If the sambal can send you to heaven for the chicken, the empal with sambal will do that many times!

3. Soup Rawon (Beef soup)
Again, i do not know what had happened. I do not usually order sopu and definitely not in a malay/indonesian restaurant. However, this soup rawon caught my eyes when I was ordering and somewhat ordered it, and boy! am I glad I ordered it. Its tasty and does not give you the usual heavy aroma that comes with beef soup, yet it is mesmerising as you twirl your tongue and the soup caressing it. The feeling is just great.

4. Brinjal/Aubergine/Terung
Just normal and if you require vegetable to accompany your food, this can be a good choice, else you can pass as I have eaten aubergine prepared many times better than this. The brinjal prepared at this Ayam Penyet restaurant is still a bit too oily for me though the taste is there.

5. Gado Gado
The gado gado is normal but I love the tempe and the fried tofu that came with it.

6. Es Bandung
The bandung, when drank on its own, it is a bit too sweet, but after the baptism of fire from the sambal, the bandung is heavenly! In my opinion, I guess the bandung concoction is designed to quench thirst but for "firefighting" purpose. The other drink is teh botol, but I still prefer the es bandung

What's the damage for three person? Under RM50/-. The next time when I visit this restaurant, I will only order empal penyet, soup rawon, tempe and fried tofu and of course es bandung. The rest can give it a pass.

Comprehend & Understand - Is there a difference?

Comprehending a topic is very different from understanding it. When one comprehend a topic, basically one just know what it is either through listening or reading it. Understanding it means one has comprehend and experience it either through practising it or experiencing it live.

Sharing an incident that happens to me two days ago. How many of us comprehend how to change tires? I am very sure all or most drivers comprehend it in one way or another, but I am very sure most of us do not understand what it takes to do it.

The most unexpected or probably being an optimistic guy, I always says things will not happen to me, but it happened. I was driving along the North-South highway when the rear tyre burst. I slowed down and drive to the side. Confidently, I checked the tyre and got out the tools like a "pro" only to find out that I did not know how to lower the spare-tyre from the bottom of the car. This is not the saloon car but a station-wagon type where the spare tyre is not placed in the rear compartment but under it. I know there is a special tool to lower the spare-tyre but I just did not know where to insert the tool to meet the objective!

I end-up walking to the "SOS Intercom" provided by PLUS. I trigger the level and the beeping sound came on, but no one responded. Then I walked back to the car and try getting the PLUS emergency number. Called them and within less than 30 minutes they arrived. Got to commend them that they are polite and did their job well.

Case in point, do not be fooled by our own mind that we understand something when we actually just comprehend. Whatever we are taught, we must practise to ensure we understand and not just let it stay in the mind assuming we understand when we just comprehend!

Paper baked chicken

Rating:
3.5/5-Star. Service and ambience is normal as per chinese mid-range restaurant but the food is commendable.

Remarks & Opinion:
This place is just diagonally opposite The Store (at the side where there is a monsoon drain). This is one place that for once I have to admit that there are real good food in Johor Bahru. Johore has never given me an impression of good food. Herein what I ordered for three person and I left the restaurant a satisfied foodie!:-

1) Paper baked steamed chicken (RM14)- One whole chicken wrapped in a paper bag and baked together with some herbs and spices. The taste is good without the usual heavy chinese herbal taste. The meat is moist and each bite will not leave you without a good and nice flavour that brings out the real taste and aroma of the chicken.

2)  Sizzling Beancurd (RM8) - The look is like the normal sizzling beancurd, but the taste is light but flavoursome. Can't really distinguish the specialty of this dish for it is supposedly to be just a normal beancurd with eggs, but I am very sure I will be ordering this dish when I return to this restaurant.

3) Pan-fry Aubergine/brinjal (RM8) - Pan fry with small prawns. Great flavour and not soggy. Most importantly not oily.

4) Bitter Gourd Omellete (RM8)- The eggs are just right and the bitter gourd is not bitter, not hard and definitely not soggy. Just the right state of being to be mixed with the eggs. It is not fry until dry. The right moist and texture of the bitter gourd leaves you with a special flavour when mixed with the eggs. Instead of the eggs accompanying the bitter gourd, the bitter gourd gives the eggs a special flavour.

How to pronounce the word "Eisriq"?

There has been questions as to how is the word "Eisriq" pronounced and what does it mean? It is pronounced as "Ice""Rick". It is a word that is constructed based on the name of two persons who means a lot in my life, of which I hope principles, experiences, trials, messages, etc mentioned in this blog will be learnt and adopted by them.

Lord willing, this will shaped them into resourceful and versatile global citizens.
